The Phelps family has been involved in Stock Car racing since 1961 when Dave Phelps started racing the California Dirt tracks. Dave Phelps was also involved in the early days of Off Road racing. Dave Phelps was well known for his hard driving, and for his attention to details. Daves racing machines always looked great, and ran great. Dave's profesionalism and winning spirit made him very popular with his sponsors, and the race fans. Dave had no idea that his passion for racing just about anything with a motor was the start of a family tradition. Dave's son Tracy loved racing from the time he was a toddler. Tracy raced Go Karts, Motorcycles, Dune Buggies, and Stock Cars. Tracy Phelps officially started Phelps Motorsports in 1997 with one vision; winning championships. Phelps Motorsports is dedicated to professionalism on and off the race track. This professional can-do attidude has earned Phelps Motorsports the respect of NASCAR officials, fellow racers, and the race fans alike.
